15 Must-See Summer Exhibitions
I'm excited to share my top picks for must-see exhibitions around the world this summer.
Whether you're an avid art collector or simply appreciate the beauty of visual art, these exhibitions offer something for everyone.
Aspen:
Adrián Villar Rojas at the Aspen Art Museum. Known for creating immersive, thought-provoking installations, Villar Rojas transforms the museum into an unforgettable contemporary art experience. Intersect Aspen Art Fair opens July 28th - August 1st!
Florence:
Mark Rothko at Palazzo Strozzi. One of the most ambitious Rothko exhibitions ever presented in Italy, bringing together more than 70 works that span the artist's extraordinary career.
Hamptons:
Tony Bechara: An Artist of Many Worlds at the Parrish Art Museum. I had the pleasure of knowing Tony personally, which makes this posthumous museum exhibition especially meaningful to me. While you're in the Hamptons, I also highly recommend a visit to Harper’s East Hampton. Their current group show 36 Paintings features a great group of artists whose work I love.
London:
Frida: The Making of an Icon at Tate Modern. A major exhibition exploring the life and legacy of one of the world's most beloved artists. If contemporary art is more your style, Tracey Emin is also on view at Tate Modern this summer.
Los Angeles:
Picasso: Portraits in Disguise at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. A fresh look at Picasso's lifelong fascination with portraiture and a wonderful opportunity to experience LACMA's new David Geffen Galleries.
Miami:
Basquiat: Figures, Signs, Symbols at the Pérez Art Museum Miami. Featuring ten masterworks from the Kenneth C. Griffin Collection, this landmark exhibition is the largest presentation of Jean-Michel Basquiat's work ever shown in Florida.
New York City:
This Summer, I highly recommend a visit to the Guggenheim, where I worked for many years. Carol Bove is up through August 2. The colorful sculptures are a super fun experience within the ramps of the museum. The exhibition also features a hidden mural by Joan Miró- unveiled (for the first time in decades). Also on view, Guggenheim Pop - featuring a range of works from the permanent collection.
New York – Upstate:
The Campus in Hudson and Storm King Art Center are two of my favorite places to visit during the Summer months.
Palm Beach:
Danielle McKinney: Shelter at the Norton Museum of Art. McKinney's quietly atmospheric paintings have quickly established her as one of the most exciting figurative painters working today.
Paris:
Calder: Dreaming in Equilibrium at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. One of the strongest exhibitions I've seen this year, bringing together nearly 300 works spanning Calder's remarkable career.
Palo Alto:
The Anderson Collection at Stanford University. This exceptional museum remains one of the Bay Area's hidden gems, with masterpieces by Richard Diebenkorn, Willem de Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, Mark Rothko, and Jackson Pollock.
Rishon LeZion, Israel:
The Yaacov Agam Museum of Art (YAMA). Following the recent passing of Yaacov Agam, one of Israel's most influential artists, this summer offers a particularly meaningful opportunity to revisit the work of one of the pioneers of kinetic art.
San Francisco:
Monet and Venice at the de Young Museum. Bringing together Monet's celebrated views of Venice, this exhibition explores the artist's enduring fascination with light, atmosphere, and reflection.
Tel Aviv:
Tom Wesselmann: All Out from the Mugrabi Collection explores the work of this pivotal artist at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
Venice:
Venice Biennale is up through November 22 and The Peggy Guggenheim Collection - one of my favorite museums in the city and an essential stop for anyone interested in twentieth-century art.
